Zayed is the son of
Sanjay Khan and has three sisters: Suzanne Khan (married to
Hrithik Roshan), Simone Khan, and Farah Khan. His uncle is
Feroz Khan and
Fardeen Khan is his cousin.
He has studied at Welham Boys' School, Dehradun and later at the Kodaikanal International School. He also studied in the London Film School (formerly London International Film School) in London, UK.
Zayed entered the bollywood industry in the year 2003 in the film Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne with actress
Esha Deol, who is also one of his childhood friends. He rose to fame with Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na in 2004, where he co-starred with
Shahrukh Khan,
Sushmita Sen and
Amrita Rao. Post which most of his movies have flopped at the box office.
In the year 2005, Zayed married his childhood sweetheart Malaika Parekh on November 20. He became a proud father on January 17, 2008. The little boy was named Zidaan Zayed Abbas Khan, after the French soccer star, Zinedine Zidane. Zayed was keen that his baby's name should start with the letter Z.
